New water sports complex for tourists |

There are no facilities and proper infrastructure to attract tourists for water sports even though Sri Lanka can promote water sports tourism efficiently.DPJ Holdings will embark on a leisure sector project with the collaboration of a foreign investor for a water sports complex on the Western coast.The project hopes to attract many domestic and international tourists for the leisure sector in Sri Lanka, DPJ Holdings Chairman and CEO, Prasantha Jayamanna told Daily News Business.The joint venture will carry an investment of Rs 75 million for water sports complex which will cater to the domestic and international tourists.” |

The water sports industry under the leisure sector in Sri Lanka is not strong as in other countries engaged in tourism. There is a huge potential to promote water sports but the market is under-served. With the development of the facility in Sri Lanka, it can cater to tourists helping the government expectations of having 25 million tourists by 2015,” he said.The project will develop a range of products such as parachuting, gliding and parasailing.There is a huge demand of water sports among the domestic tourists as well. The initial construction of the complex will commence in three months.The company is awaiting approvals for the constructions.
“It is expected that the construction cost will be high as there is a necessity of construction of piers, the construction has to assure proper infrastructure and safety measures as this is an industry related to the protection of people,” Jayamanna said. |
